Housing projects across the RMWB are getting some extra funds from the federal and provincial governments.

Nearly $32 million from the two are being used on 362 senior and family projects across the province which includes in Fort McMurray, Anzac, and Fort Chipewyan.

The government of Canada is providing over $25 million, while the government of Alberta is supplying roughly $6 million.

Hadyn Place, a spokesperson for Alberta’s Ministry of Infrastructure, didn’t specify how much the three communities are getting in funding.

However, he noted they will be used on replacing shingles, eavestroughs, downspouts, some siding, and at least one furnace at various community housing projects.

Again, Place did not say what these projects were.

“By investing in these infrastructure projects today, the Alberta government is taking care of its facilities for the future while creating good-paying local jobs and promoting healthy economic activity in Alberta communities right when the help is needed most,” said Prasad Panda, Minister of Infrastructure.

A total of 180 jobs are expected to be created through the funding.

It’s unclear if any of these positions are being added in the RMWB.

“These renovations will help prevent infection transmission, increase safety and enhance seniors’ quality of life in apartments and lodges that provide them independent and supportive living,” added Deb Schulte, federal Minister of Seniors.
