Balsom Not Seeking Re-Election In Upcoming Municipal Election

Municipal Councillor Krista Balsom is planning to step away from politics after the term wraps up ahead of this year’s election.

She announced over Facebook she’s been accepted to the University of Saskatchewan to study law, a passion she claims to have had for years.

Whether classes are in-person or online, Balsom tells Mix News she isn’t planning on out-right leaving the community.

“I will be in the community as much as possible but I will attend classes out in Saskatoon if necessary.”

She was elected back in 2017.

During this time, she was elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities twice.

For the entire council, their term was highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 flood.

Balsom says she hopes the next council can focus on improving not recovering.

“I really hope that the next council continues to work on the waterfront revitalization, downtown, supporting our arts and culture and I can’t wait to work with them but in a different capacity.”

This election is scheduled for October 18, 2021.

As for future elections, Balsom says they’re always a chance she tries to return to politics.

“I think that’s a future Krista decision, certainly will never close any doors.”
