Two contractors for Canadian Natural Resources Limited have died due to complications from COVID-19.

The oil company confirmed both individuals worked for service providers conducting maintenance activities at their Horizon site.

It’s unclear if these individuals lived in the RMWB as Alberta Health doesn’t release personal information on any cases.

These deaths come days after a Suncor contractor also passed away from complications from the virus.

Fort McMurray is seeing a slight drop in active COVID-19 cases.

The province also announced on Thursday 2,211 new cases in the province over the past 24 hours.

There are currently 24,497 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 203,135 positive tests.

There are also 666 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 146 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added 115 new cases and 123 recoveries in the past 24 hours which puts the active total at 1,512.

The rural areas added six new cases and one recovery, raising the total of active cases to 55.

Wood Buffalo National Park remains at zero active cases.

The region remains the worst in the province when it comes to spread of the virus.

The RMWB is averaging around 1,877 cases per 100,000 individuals.

The next closest is Lac La Biche County which is averaging roughly 270 fewer cases per 100,000 people.

In total, 3,502 individuals across the RMWB – 3,326 in Fort McMurray, 166 in the rural areas, and 10 in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 176,536 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents just under 87 per cent of reported cases.

There were also no new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – keeping the total at 2,102.

To date, five individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
