Social profits are getting a chance to receive some extra financial support.

The Wood Buffalo Community Foundation is accepting applications for their annual grant program which has already provided over $1 million since starting up in 2017.

This year, they’re focusing on programs or projects aimed at providing mental health or crisis supports for individuals and families, supporting community connections, and reducing social isolation.

Priority will also be given to applications that support sustainability, collaborations, and/or capacity building.

“This year, the Community Grants are needed more than ever to support those in need,” said Gaylene Weidlich, Executive Director of the WBCF.

“In our research to determine target areas, it was clear that providing financial support for mental health and community connections will be critical for successful recovery.”

The organization has not determined how much will be allocated for this year’s grants.

In 2020, they donated $300,000 after getting a $100,000 donation from Insurance and BrokerLink, while previous years saw them cap the funding at around $200,000.

Also, they are providing a third grant this year focused on environmental initiatives.

Programs and projects that focus on environmental education, renewable energy, energy conservation, and/or climate change, land, habitat, and wildlife conservation can receive up to $3,357.

Interested organizations can apply until May 31 at 11:59 p.m.
