A Look At The Numbers In The RMWB’s 16 Active COVID-19 Outbreaks

There are 16 COVID-19 outbreaks in the RMWB representing hundreds of active cases.

The majority of these situations find themselves in the oilsands as Suncor, Syncrude, and CNRL are all dealing with high numbers at multiple sites.

According to Alberta Health, the numbers are as follows:

Suncor

  • Base Plant – 419 cases (119 active, 300 recovered)
  • Fort Hills – 26 cases (25 active, 1 recovered)
  • MacKay River – 13 cases (2 active, 11 recovered)

Syncrude

  • Mildred Lake – 365 cases (96 active, 269 recovered)
  • Aurora – 19 cases (11 active, 8 recovered)

CNRL

  • Horizon – 429 cases (153 active, 276 recovered)
  • Albian – 173 cases (25 active, 148 recovered)
  • Jackfish – 21 cases (8 active, 13 recovered)

Individual Sites

  • CNOOC’s Long Lake – 10 cases (5 active, 5 recovered)
  • Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake – 63 cases (10 active, 53 recovered)
  • Civeo Lynx Lodge – 47 cases (36 active, 11 recovered)
  • Cenovus’ Sunrise Lodge – 10 cases (2 active, 8 recovered)

There are also currently four outbreaks in Fort McMurray.

This includes Bethel Happy Daycare in Beacon Hill which currently has five active cases, Children First Eagle Ridge Nest which has 28 cases that have all recovered, Wheaton-Penny Childcare Centre that has one active case and 50 recoveries, as well as North Star Ford which is dealing with four active cases while six others have recovered.

In total, these 16 outbreaks have combined for a total of 1,689 cases with 502 still active.

Not all of these cases are updated into the region’s case numbers as fly-in-fly-out workers who test positive are added to the region where they live outside of work.

These outbreaks will officially be declared over once they go four weeks without any additional cases.
