Burn Abatement Activities Begin in RMWB

You may notice some smoke around multiple areas in Fort McMurray.

The municipality is starting burn abatement activities on April 16.

“This work is conducted each spring to remove dead and dry surface fuels that accumulate over the winter months,” said Regional Fire Chief Jody Butz.

“Burn abatement is an important step in helping to reduce the risk of wildfire in the region.”

Fires will only be conducted when its safe to do so by trained RES crews.

Because of this, smoke may be visible around Thickwood Boulevard near Highway 63 and Memorial Drive, in Abasand along the treeline, near MacDonald Drive, and the Heritage Shipyard.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Pulse Line at 780-743-7000.
