Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake Sees Slight Rise In Job Numbers in March

The region is seeing a slight increase in the number of job month over month.

That’s according to Statistics Canada’s latest report which notes Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake added around 300 spots in March.

The educational services sector saw the biggest rise, increasing by roughly 400 positions.

The forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil, and gas sector saw a rise of 300 jobs, remaining the top provider in the region.

The second closest is the wholesale and retail sector which provides around 12,000 fewer jobs.

The sector with the biggest loss was finance, insurance, real estate, rental, and leasing. They lost around 400 positions.

Meanwhile, the local unemployment rate sits at 9.1 per cent.

The provincial rate also sits at 9.1 per cent, while the federal unemployment rate dropped to 7.5 per cent.
