Human Remains Identified As Missing Indigenous Woman

The human remains found in a wooded area in Thickwood are being identified as a missing 35-year-old Indigenous woman.

Ellie Herman was last seen in Fort McMurray back in late 2019.

Her body was discovered back on March 20 in an area near Silin Forest Road and Thickett Drive.

An autopsy was done in Edmonton at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, however, they still can’t determine the cause of death.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are continuing to investigate the situation and are keeping the area where she was found closed off to the public.

Anyone with any information about her disappearance or death is asked to contact police at 780-788-4040 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Meanwhile, the Mounties are asking anyone who has put missing posters on signs, social media, and more to take them down.
