Three Arrested For Alleged Drug Trafficking In Conklin

Three individuals are being charged for alleged drug trafficking in Conklin.

Wood Buffalo RCMP conducted an investigation in March after receiving information about potential trafficking in the rural hamlet.

They were able to get a search warrant at a residence on Pine Lane which resulted in the seizure of 10 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, a loaded firearm, and over $2,000 in Canadian currency.

As a result, 34-year-old Janet Melisa Richards, 41-year-old Kirk Randle Paul Reid, both from Conklin, and 38-year-old Calvin Stanley Ballantyne from Lac La Biche were arrested.

Richards has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, proceeds of crime under $5,000, and careless use of a firearm.

Ballantyne was handed two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime under $5,000, while Reid was charged with eight counts of failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

Ballantyne and Richards have both been released from custody and are scheduled to make their next court appearance in Fort McMurray on April 13 and May 11 respectively.

Reid remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a courtroom on April 12.
