Province Opening Large-Scale Vaccination Site In MacDonald Island Park

A new large-scale vaccination site will be opening in Fort McMurray.

Starting on April 5, a clinic will be up and running at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre curling rink at MacDonald Island Park.

“MacDonald Island is, in many ways, the heart of our community. Convenient and safe access to COVID-19 vaccines is key to the health and well-being of residents, and the social and economic recovery of our communities,” said Mayor Don Scott.

“By using a larger facility with better parking, more people will be able to access their shots faster and safer. This is a logical step in the right direction.”

Vaccine appointments will no longer be held at the Thickwood Medical Centre after April 4. Those who had previously booked there will receive a text notification directing them to go to MacDonald Island Park for their appointment.

There are no drop-in appointments at the site.

The province notes measures will be in place to ensure physical distancing, cleaning, and sanitization are followed.

AHS staff will screen everyone for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering the area.
