Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 is continuing to rise.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Thursday 764 new cases over the past 24 hours across Alberta.

There are currently 6,835 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 144,311 positive tests. There are also 294 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 55 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added 27 new cases and three recoveries which raises the active total to 73.

The rural areas added one new case and two recoveries in the past 24 hours, putting the total of active cases at two.

Wood Buffalo National Park also continues to have one active case.

In total, 1,916 individuals across the RMWB – 1,768 in Fort McMurray, 139 in the rural areas, and nine in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 135,500 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 93 per cent of reported cases.

There were also three new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total at 1,976.

To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.

School Update

The province is declaring an outbreak at Holy Trinity.

This comes as five individuals with ties to the school have tested positive for the virus.

The Fort McMurray Catholic School District says none of the cases were from school transmission.

Holy Trinity is remaining open as all close contacts have been contacted.
