Local Business Owner Running For Councillor Seat On Wood Buffalo Council

A local business owner is announcing their intention to run for a spot on Wood Buffalo’s council.

Sandy Bowman, owner of Bowmans Martial Arts, is looking to become one of six Ward One councillors.

He says his main priority is ensuring those who live here can also prosper here.

“I believe instead of trying to make the city appealing to people that do not live here, we need to take care of the people that have already chosen to live here with their families. If we take care of the businesses that are already here, more businesses will follow.”

Bowman first moved to the RMWB in 1993. He currently lives in the Thickwood area with his wife and three children.

“I think I represent the demographic majority,” Bowman said. “I love this region and want to see it prosper, and I believe this is something I can achieve as part of municipal council.”

Over the years, Bowman has made a name for himself in the sports community.

He was inducted to the Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame and served on the board for the 2015 Western Canada Games and the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

He’s also served as the Chair on the RMWB Combative Sports Commission from 2013 to 2019 and currently serves as the Commission’s Deputy Chair.

“I have been in this community for almost 30 years, and I count myself lucky that I was able to live my dream here and create the best life for me and my family.”

The election is scheduled for October 18, 2021.
