Local Pharmacy Now Administering COVID-19 Vaccines To Eligible Residents

A local pharmacy is now administering COVID-19 vaccines.

The Thickwood Shoppers Drug Mart is one of 259 pharmacies across the province providing shots against the virus.

The government of Alberta is expanding its vaccine rollout plan to include more of these locations, with plans for them to become the largest provider in the near future.

“We’re expanding the vaccine rollout as fast as the supply coming into Alberta allows,” said Premier Jason Kenney.

“Our speed and efficiency is only held back by the number of doses that we receive from the federal government.”

Right now, the Shoppers Drug Mart is the only local pharmacy providing the vaccine. The next closest is in Lac La Biche.

“We know the demand is there, and look forward to bringing hundreds of more pharmacies online to administer vaccines in the coming weeks as more vaccines arrive in our province,” added Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health.

Eligible Albertans can book an appointment by calling the pharmacy directly, through 8-1-1, or by using the online booking tool.

More information about the COVID-19 vaccines, including who’s currently able to get the shot, can be found on the GoA’s website.
