The provincial government is planning to provide additional support for businesses hit hard by COVID-19.

Premier Jason Kenney announced on Wednesday small and medium-sized businesses can receive another payment to help offset costs coming from pandemic.

This includes purchasing personal protective equipment, paying bills, and hiring staff.

“Small businesses are the beating heart of Alberta’s economy and Alberta’s government will always be there for them,” added Kenney.

“We will continue to be there for Albertans, protecting lives and livelihoods with support measures just like this.”

Businesses can get up to $10,000 in help.

The amount given depends on monthly revenue with the program matching 15 per cent of income for businesses which have seen at least a 60 per cent drop in earnings.

“We promised our job creators that we would be there to support them throughout this pandemic, and we will continue to evaluate the needs of Albertans while we engage with the federal government to address gaps in their long-term programs,” added Doug Schweitzer, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation.

According to the GoA, they’ve provided over $359 million to more than 50,000 businesses.
