Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre Remaining Closed Despite Being Allowed To Partially Reopen

The Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre is remaining closed despite being allowed to reopen to the public next week.

Last week, Premier Jason Kenney announced an easing of several COVID-19 measures starting on February 8.

In a statement, Keyano College says they’re keeping the facility closed due to the chances of COVID-19 cases increasing again.

“The first step in the plan will include allowing one-on-one personal training to take place by appointment. Although this measure will be put in place, the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre has decided to remain closed as an increase in cases could result in the facility having to rescind this offer to the public.”

The province plans to ease restrictions through a four-stage process, based on hospital numbers. They plan on waiting at least three weeks in between each step.

Keyano says they’ll continue to monitor the situation to determine the best time to reopen the facility.
