Two companies are on track to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines in Canada.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Tuesday Precision NanoSystems and Novavax are getting ready to manufacture vaccines for Canadians.

“We need as much domestic capacity for vaccine production as possible,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “We are investing in Canada’s biomanufacturing sector for today, and for the long term.”

Pending Health Canada approval, the National Research Council of Canada is building a new Biologics Manufacturing Centre at its Royalmount centre in Montreal, and the University of Saskatchewan’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization — International Vaccine Centre will be able to produce millions of vaccines per month.

Trudeau adds they’re investing $64 million in the vaccine rollout plan to ensure all Canadians who want to be vaccinated will be by September.
