Fort McMurray is continuing to see a drop in active COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Monday 362 new cases, along with an additional 409 which weren’t updated over the past month and a half due to a technical issue, across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 121,535 with 9,337 currently active. There are also 637 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 113 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added seven new cases and 19 additional recoveries which lowers the active total to 124. One of these individuals who recently contracted the virus has ties to Composite High School.

The rural areas saw one new case and no new recoveries which raises the total of active cases to six, while there continue to be no active cases in Wood Buffalo National Park.

In total, 1,676 individuals across the RMWB – 1,543 in Fort McMurray, 124 in the rural areas, and nine in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 110,622 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 91 per cent of reported cases.

There were also 25 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 1,574.

To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
