The active total of COVID-19 cases in Fort McMurray is once again dropping.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Wednesday 669 new cases across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 118,436 with 11,096 currently active. There are also 744 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 124 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added 18 new cases and 25 additional recoveries which lowers the active total to 162. One of these individuals has ties to St. Gabriel School, with all those who need to self-isolate being contacted by Alberta Health Services.

The rural areas didn’t see any changes which keeps the total of active cases at two, while one individual in Wood Buffalo National Park has recovered leaving just one active case.

In total, 1,598 individuals across the RMWB – 1,467 in Fort McMurray, 123 in the rural areas, and eight in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 106,387 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents nearly 90 per cent of reported cases.

There were also 21 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 1,484.

To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
