The Fort McMurray Public School Division is looking for the public to help plan the budget for the next school year.
They’ve launched an online survey where residents can share their thoughts and opinions on where the division should focus their attention.
“The more people who participate in our online engagement process, the better we will understand the wants and needs of our community entirely, and we will try our best to meet these requirements based on our funding projections,” said Jennifer Turner, FMPSD Superintendent.
The provincial government, which covers educational costs, will be releasing its budget in the coming weeks with many expecting a drop in funding in certain areas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While it’s not confirmed, the division is preparing to potentially reduce costs. This could include higher transportation fees, reducing program options, raising class sizes, and more.
“It is clear that certain budgetary choices will need to be made for the 2021-2022 school year,” added Turner. “Your input will assist us to identify various priorities as we develop a budget in a continuing environment of limited resources.”
The survey is confidential and allows individuals to view, consider, and rate thoughts from others.
It will be open to the public until January 26.
