An operator at Suncor’s Base Plant is currently unaccounted for after falling into a tailings pond.

Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, a dozer reportedly went through the ice of an inactive tailings pond.

The individual is an employee of Christina River Construction.

Emergency services are continuing to respond to the incident.

“Supporting the safety and wellbeing of our people remains our number one priority and we have activated critical incident stress debriefing resources,” a spokesperson with Suncor tells Mix News.
