The United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo’s annual community campaign was able to raise around $3.5 million.
This was short of the organization’s goal of $4 million.
Despite not hitting their target, the United Way says the total they were able to raise was a big success.
“We knew we had a challenging year ahead of us going into this campaign cycle,” said Craig Picton, 2020 Community Campaign Chair.
“It required us to be innovative in our approach and we are thankful for the incredible reception from our community.”
Some of the initiatives included the Red Menu Campaign which featured a record number of restaurants taking part and the first-ever Really Really Really Big 50/50 and Christmas Cash Draw.
The funds will go towards supporting the United Way’s member agencies which include Girls Inc of Northern Alberta, the Centre of Hope, and the Salvation Army.
Meanwhile, the organization says they will be some tough decisions moving forward as the campaign continues to miss its annual goals.
The 2020 total was over $1 million less than 2019’s.
“There are some tough decisions to be made moving forward,” added Andrea Hine, Community Investment Chair.
“We are committed to working diligently with our partner agencies and Community Investment teams to ensure maximum impact in Wood Buffalo with the funds available.”
