Fort McMurray is seeing a slight rise in the number of active COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Tuesday 652 new cases across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 112,743 with 13,220 currently active. There are also 819 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 132 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added 19 new cases and 14 additional recoveries which raises the active total to 246.

The rural areas didn’t see any new changes in the past 24 hours which keeps the total of active cases at four, while there were two recoveries in Wood Buffalo National Park which puts the active total at two.

In total, 1,434 individuals across the RMWB – 1,307 in Fort McMurray, 120 in the rural areas, and seven in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 98,178 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 87 per cent of reported cases.

There were also 38 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 1,345.

To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
