MLA Yao Currently in Mexico For Holiday Break

Tany Yao, MLA For Fort McMurray – Wood Buffalo, is currently celebrating the holidays in Mexico.

That’s according to Tim Gerwing, UCP Caucus Communications Director, who spoke to Mix News.

He adds they’re currently trying to get in contact with Yao and ask him to return to the province.

Mix News also reached out to Yao’s Constituent Manager but did not get a response.

He’s allegedly one of several Alberta MLAs and members of staff who’ve recently traveled outside of the country, despite the province and Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, asking residents to stay home to avoid spreading COVID-19.

This includes Tracy Allard, Minister of Municipal Affairs.

According to CBC News, Premier Jason Kenney is personally taking responsibility and won’t be sanctioning anyone who traveled abroad.

Meanwhile, Laila Goodridge, MLA for Fort McMurray – Lac La Biche states she celebrated the holidays in the community.

“I returned home to Fort McMurray after the legislature wrapped up in mid-December and I have been here throughout. My husband and I celebrated a nice Christmas and New Years’ together.”
