Two Dead After Incident at Fort Hills

Two individuals are dead following an incident at Suncor Energy’s Fort Hills site, north of Fort McMurray.

Around 5:30pm on December 28th, emergency services responded to a dozer making contact with a light work truck.

As a result, two Clearsteam employees lost their lives.

Names are not being released until next of kin have been notified.

In a statement, Suncor stated ‘the safety and security of our people remains our number one priority.’

Occupational Health and Safety are currently on scene conducting an investigation and the RCMP have also been notified.

Mine operations have been stood down and only critical work is being completed while the investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, grief counselling activities have been initiated onsite and employees can reach out to their leader if they are in need of additional support.

Clearstream provides mining services to the Fort Hills site.
