Keyano College and its theatre are getting some financial help from Suncor Energy.

The oil company is providing the post-secondary school with two grants, however, neither specified for how much.

Keyano says the grants cover the amount Suncor had pledged for multiple events that had been canceled throughout the year.

“This is truly an early Christmas present we were not expecting,” said Alan Roberts, Director, Keyano Theatre & Arts.

“With live performance venues having gone dark this past year, it has become extremely challenging to survive and a donation like this will help greatly with hopes for a big rebound in the new year.”

This donation comes after Wood Buffalo council also allocated $518,000 in the 2021 budget to help Keyano’s theatre.

“Keyano Theatre has the mandate to attract artists and entertainment from around the world and make it available to our region. COVID-19 prevented that from happening,” added Dale Mountain, Keyano Interim President & CEO.
