RCMP Use Containment Area, Tear Gas To Arrest 37-Year-Old Fort McMurray Man

A 37-year-old Fort McMurray man is in police custody after causing a multi-hour police standoff in Timberlea.

Around 10:40 a.m. on December 4, Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to a residence on Millennium Drive after receiving a report of an alleged assault with a weapon.

The complainants were able to exit the residence unharmed, however, the Mounties needed to set up a containment area after unsuccessful attempts to get the individual to leave the property.

An Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team from Edmonton was also called to help deescalate the situation.

After several hours, tear gas was deployed and the police were able to arrest Allan Geoffrey Libertino.

He’s since been charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of mischief.

Libertino remains in police custody and has been transported to the Edmonton Remand Centre.

A bail hearing has been scheduled for December 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Fort McMurray Provincial Courthouse.
