Region Sees Small Drop In Job Numbers Month Over Month

The region is seeing a slight dip in the number of jobs month over month.

According to Statistics Canada’s November report, Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake lost around 300 positions.

This comes after adding 700 jobs in October, 1,200 in September, 1,000 in August, and 1,300 in July.

The construction sector had the biggest loss, accounting for 500 spots. This could be the result of fewer projects taking place during the winter months.

Educational services also saw a decrease of 400 positions.

The forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil, and gas sector added 300 jobs which was one of the biggest monthly increases.

Meanwhile, the local unemployment rate continues to drop – currently sitting at 8.8 per cent.

The provincial rate went up slightly to 11.1 per cent, while the federal unemployment rate dropped to 8.9 per cent respectively.
