Western Canadian Baseball League Announces 2021 Schedule, Fort McMurray Giants Hosting First Game in Alberta

The Fort McMurray Giants are scheduled to host one of the first two games of the Western Canadian Baseball League’s return to play.

The WCBL released on Monday the schedule of the 2021 Western Canadian Baseball League regular season.

It’s slated to get underway on May 27 with the Giants hosting the Edmonton Prospects and the Regina Red Sox welcoming the Weyburn Beavers.

“We cannot wait to open up our beautiful ballparks again and reconnect with the best baseball fans in Canada,” said Kevin Kvame, WCBL President.

The regular season will be 56 games long with the playoffs featuring best-of-three-series.

The 2020 season was canceled back in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, the league noted the safety of players, staff, host families, and fans were the main priorities and, unfortunately, the pandemic forced them to come to the hard decision to abandon the campaign.

The Giants will play the Prospects in a four-game series to start the season before traveling to Brooks to play the Bombers.

They’re coming off a 2019 campaign which saw them go 28-and-28 which was a franchise record, however, they just missed out on their first postseason birth.
