Fort McMurray is adding 12 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

The province announced on Thursday 1,105 new cases across Alberta – the highest daily total since measures were first introduced in mid-March.

This raises the provincial total to 42,797 with 10,382 cases currently active.

Locally, the community also saw nine additional recoveries which puts the active total at 135.

The rural areas didn’t see any new changes over the past day with the total of active cases remaining at 10.

In total, 484 individuals across the RMWB – 413 in Fort McMurray and 71 in the rural areas – have recovered.

They are among the 31,964 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents under 75 per cent of reported cases.

Meanwhile, there were also eight new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 451.

To date, two individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.

School Update

Father Mercredi is seeing another positive case of COVID-19.

This is the fourth case in the last two weeks to be tied to the school, however, all are believed to have been contracted in the community.

The school is still remaining open.

Alberta Health Services will be in contact with all staff and students who need to self-isolate.
