Another person in Fort McMurray has passed away from COVID-19.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Monday 860 new cases across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 40,189 with 10,031 cases currently active.

In the past three days, Fort McMurray added 27 new cases and saw 19 additional recoveries. This puts the active total at 129.

The community also saw its second death from the virus over the weekend. The province is not releasing any information about the individual over privacy regulation.

There were also 20 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 427. This is the highest daily total since the first measures were introduced in mid-March.

As for the rural areas, they saw eight new cases which raised the active total to 10.

In total, 463 individuals across the RMWB – 392 in Fort McMurray and 71 in the rural areas – have recovered.

They are among the 29,713 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents just under 74 per cent of reported cases.

School Update

A COVID-19 outbreak is being declared at Holy Trinity.

Two individuals with ties to the school tested positive for the virus last week.

Alberta Health Services is now determining these cases meet the criteria for an outbreak.

Neither case is believed to have been contracted at the school.

“Out of respect to these individuals and in accordance with Alberta Health Services guidelines, we cannot disclose personal details of the individuals that have tested positive for COVID-19,” read a statement from the Fort McMurray Catholic School District.

On top of the regular COVID-19 cleaning measures, additional cleaning has taken place where the individuals had been present.
