Two local organizations are getting funds to help navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturn, and the aftermath of April’s flood.

The federal government announced on Thursday they’re allocating $3.2 million for 17 groups in northern Alberta through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund program.

This includes Community Futures Wood Buffalo and the Fort McMurray Construction Association.

The government of Canada says these funds will help both overcome some of the difficulties coming from the COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturn, and April’s flood.

“Our government committed to create one million jobs, and I want to assure northern Alberta business owners and workers that while we manage this health crisis, we will be there to support you for as long as it takes, with whatever it takes, and we will get through this together,” said Mlanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development.

This investment is expected to create around 1,200 jobs around Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, and Edmonton.

The amount being given to Community Futures Wood Buffalo and the Fort McMurray Construction Association was not announced.
