Downtown Fully Reopened, Schools Back To Normal After RCMP Search For Armed Individual

Downtown Fort McMurray is back to normal after reports of an armed individual.

Wood Buffalo RCMP were called around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday after reports of a man with a firearm walking outside.

They ended up securing and searching an area within Highway 63 around Hospital Street, Franklin Avenue, King Street, and Tolen Drive.

Officers were also sent to nearby schools, including Composite, Dr. K.A. Clark, Father Turcotte, and Keyano, where each was put under a hold and secure protocol.

During their search, the Mounties didn’t find anyone matching the description. After not getting any more reports, they reopened the section of downtown around an hour later.

All the schools have also been notified and are back to normal operations.

Anyone with any information about this incident or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact RCMP at 780-788-4040 or Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
