FireSmart Project Underway in Wood Buffalo

You may notice smoke around Wood Buffalo.

The RMWB is currently undergoing a FireSmart project in the neighbourhood to reduce fuel for future wildfires.

Crews are currently removing all dead, down and unhealthy trees as well as pruning and selective thinning of evergreen trees.

This work is expected to happen over 2.6 hectares of land.

These materials are being disposed of through supervised burns, when safe to do so.

All this work is expected to take around two weeks to finish.

Meanwhile, FireSmart projects will continue in Conklin, Anzac, and Fort Chipewyan will start after ‘ground freeze.’
