Imperial Oil is looking to raise funds to help a local non-profit aimed at supporting youth struggling with their mental health.
The oil company will be donating five dollars for everyone who downloads the Esso Speedpass+ app until October 28 through the Fuel What Matters Campaign.
They are planning to cap the funds at $140,000 and donate it to organizations in communities they operate in which includes Wood’s Homes in Fort McMurray.
“They offer conflict resolution and mediation services, so if a youth is displaced from their home, for whatever reason, they can work holistically with broader services to try and help that individual and help the family involved,” said Laura Bishop, Imperial Oil’s Communication and Community Investment Manager.
The goal is to raise $10,000 for Wood’s Homes.
The campaign has also gotten the attention of hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser and current Vancouver Canucks Captain Bo Horvat.
Bishop says it was important they had both join to help end the stigma around mental health.
“Having athletes that people will recognize I think that increases the opportunity for people to see this and know that’s okay to talk about this and talk about how they’re doing themselves.”
