Arctic Winter Games Unveil Official Mascot

The search is over the 2022 Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games mascot.

The Host Society introduced Nitotem the Lynx on Tuesday after going through over 40 different options during the mascot design contest.

Kids between 5 to 12 years old were invited to submit their ideas earlier this spring.

The word Nitotem is Cree for ‘my friend’ with Sadie Antoine submitting the winning design. From her drawing, a design team was able to bring Nitotem to life.

“We are excited to finally unveil Nitotem to the community as he is a very important part of not only the Games themselves but all the events leading up to the big week,” said Kim Rizzi, General Manager of the Games.

Residents will notice Nitotem across the community leading up to and during the festivities.

The Arctic Winter Games are slated to take place from March 6-12, 2022.
