Regional Emergency Services Recognizing Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is back with a theme of Safety in the Kitchen.

Regional Emergency Services dedicates the first full week of October every year to sharing tips to help keep residents safe from fires.

This includes keeping a lid and oven mitt close by when cooking to snuff out grease fires, creating a kid-free zone three feet around the stove, and never leave your cooking unattended – turn off the element even if you’re only leaving the room for a moment.

RES notes kitchen fires are the leading cause of home fires and injuries.

Fire prevention resources for residents, including games for kids, can be found on the RMWB’s website.
