New School Zones Being Introduced in Timberlea, Thickwood, and Downtown

Three new school zones are being put in across Fort McMurray.

Starting on October 5, a speed limit of 30 km/hr will be in effect on King Street near Composite, along Silin Forest Road at Father Mercredi, and along Parsons Creek Drive for students at Ecole McTavish and Holy Trinity.

The limit will only be in effect on school days from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The sections of these roads with traffic controls and fences in place will remain at 50 km/hr.

These were the last schools in Fort McMurray without a school zone as they are mainly used for elementary schools.

The Community Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the Fort McMurray Catholic School District and Fort McMurray Public School Division, recommended adding the new zones.

Drivers will be given a heads up while driving as updated signage is currently being put up.
