Local Survivors Taking Part in Virtual Fashion Fundraiser for Edmonton Cancer Shelter

Five local cancer survivors will be taking part in a virtual fashion fundraiser.

‘Fashion with Compassion At Home’ is being held to support Sorrentino’s Compassion House which offers an affordable place for women from Northern Alberta who have to travel to Edmonton for cancer treatment.

The house charges these women $35 per night, though the cost to the facility being around $135.

“I’ll never forget the day I arrived. I opened those doors and it was like a big huga big, warm hug,” said Lindsay Weeks, one of 143 women from Fort McMurray who’ve stayed at the house.

She is one of the five survivors who are taking part in the fashion fundraiser.

It’ll include a fashion show, a chance for the women to share their recovery stories, a silent auction, raffle prizes, and more.

“Fashion with Compassion helps keep our doors open and room rates low, so the House can truly be a home where women can concentrate on what’s most important: healing,” added Michelle Okere, CEO of Compassion House Foundation.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be virtual with people across the province and country invited to take part.

It takes place on October 8 and tickets can be purchased online.
