St Gabriel and École St Paul Seeing New Cases of COVID-19

The Fort McMurray Catholic School District is seeing more cases of COVID-19 being declared.

The previous two were reported last week with Alberta Health Services declaring an outbreak.

These cases are believed to have been contracted off site and are not the result of school transmission.

cole St Paul has also received news of their first two cases of the virus, however they are not the result of school transmission.

While an outbreak is usually determined at a school once two positive cases have been identified, according to the FMCSD, Alberta Health Services have stated these two cases do not meet their outbreak definition.

Both St Gabriel and cole St Paul will remain open at this time.

Custodians have conducted enhanced cleaning protocols, focusing on areas where the individuals were present, along with high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the schools.

Alberta Health Services will be in contact with all staff and student who need to self-isolate. The schools will also reach out to discuss next steps.

Meanwhile, those who show any symptoms are asked to stay home, self-isolate, and get tested for the virus.

Everyone should continue to fill out the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire each day before heading off to school.
