A constable with the Wood Buffalo RCMP is being charged with assault using a weapon.

On September 17, 25-year-old Joshua Jackson, who’s been with the detachment for five months, allegedly threw a cellphone at a woman.

She ended up needing to be treated at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre but has since been released.

Jackson was off-duty at the time of the incident.

The Mounties say they’ve removed him from his general patrol duties, having him work in an administrative capacity for the foreseeable future.

“The Alberta RCMP believes in processes that seek the facts and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved, including the police, are fair, transparent, and defendable,” read a statement from the RCMP.

Jackson’s first appearance in court is scheduled for September 29, 2020, in Fort McMurray.
