Deadline Approaching For Deferred Property Tax Payments

Deferred property taxes will soon have to be paid.

The RMWB is reminding residents and businesses who took advantage of the pushback that late penalties will be added on to the payment if it’s not made by September 30.

Wood Buffalo council offered the deferral due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Usually, property taxes are collected at the end of June.

A three per cent penalty will be applied on October 1 to outstanding balances from 2020, while a two per cent penalty will be applied to outstanding balances from previous years. Further late penalties will start to be applied on January 1, 2021.

Property taxes can be made online, through your bank or financial institution, using cash or cheque at the Timberlea Landing Cashier’s Office, or by mailing the RMWB.

Meanwhile, eligible small businesses in the rural areas are encouraged to apply for the Rural Non-Residential Small Business Tax Class program to receive a 25 per cent cut in the municipal rural non-residential tax rate.
