UPDATE: Six COVID-19 Cases Linked To Four FMCSD Schools, Outbreaks Declared At St. Gabriel and Holy Trinity

Four Fort McMurray schools are dealing with COVID-19.

An outbreak has been declared at St. Gabriel School and Holy Trinity as two cases are being discovered at each school, while Elsie Yanik School and Sister Mary Phillips School each have one positive case.

None of the cases are believed to have been contracted at school.

Outbreaks will be declared at schools when there are at least two positive cases within a 14 day period. The province usually requires at least five cases to declare an outbreak in other settings.

St. Gabriel, Holy Trinity, Elsie Yanik, and Sister Mary Phillips will remain open at this time.

Custodians have conducted enhanced cleaning protocols, focusing on areas where the individuals were present, along with high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the schools.

Alberta Health Services will be in contact with all staff and student who need to self-isolate. The schools will also reach out to discuss next steps.

Meanwhile, those who show any symptoms are asked to stay home, self-isolate, and get tested for the virus.

Everyone should continue to fill out the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire each day before heading off to school.
