Arts Council Looking To Turn Old Movie Theatre Into Arts Incubator

The old downtown movie theatre may soon have a new owner.

Arts Council Wood Buffalo is conducting a survey to determine whether the public wants to turn the building into an arts incubator.

This space would be a spot for artists to work and gather, while also being the venue for potential performances, showcases, and workshops.

The building has been vacant since mid-2018 as the new Landmark Cinema opened up in Eagle Ridge.

The survey will give residents the chance to share their views and thoughts on the potential incubator. It will be available until October 6 at midnight with the organization unable to use social media comments as feedback.

“We’re ready to engage with the public to get feedback on the project and evaluate the benefits for everyone in our region,” said Liana Wheeldon, ACWB Executive Director.

Arts Council has been working with Akron Engineering on a feasibility study with the funds coming from Community Foundations of Canada via their Investment Readiness Program.

An update is expected to come during the fall.
