The RMWB is pleading guilty for an incident at their water treatment plant which caused a release of chlorine gas.
The province had charged the municipality after an accidental mixing of sodium hypochlorite and polyaluminum chloride back in May, 2017.
The guilty plea comes with a $150,000 fine with most of it going towards two projects.
The first is a workshop developed by the municipality and the Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators Association which aims to provide operates a better understanding of what an “incident” is and what their legal obligations are to try to prevent the incidents, how to report them, and how to correct them.
Some funds will also be given to the Northern Lights Health Foundation so they can purchase filters for the air handling units currently on hand at the hospital.
