The first week of school in Fort McMurray went off without a hitch.
Students attended class, for the first time since mid-March, for one day this week as the Fort McMurray Public School Division and Fort McMurray Catholic School District held a staggered re-entry.
This allowed them a chance to learn all the new COVID-19 measures in a stress-free environment. This includes additional signage around the school, dividing hallways to allow for easy and safe commutes, and having to wear a mask in all common areas.
Both the FMPSD and FMCSD note they had no issues in the first week as no cases have popped up and nobody had to self-isolate after developing symptoms.
“It’s been wonderful to see children back in our schools. They are why we do this! We just can’t wait until next week and everyone is back together,” said the Catholic School District in an email sent to Mix News.
Each grade will be back in school together for the first time on September 8.
