COVID-19 Outbreak Declared At Regional Health Centre’s Medicine Unit After Positive Case

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre’s medicine unit.

In an email sent to Mix News, Alberta Health Services says an individual tested positive for the virus on August 21 and, as a precaution, an outbreak was declared specifically for the unit.

All patients have been tested and are currently being monitored for symptoms. At this time, just the one individual has contracted COVID-19.

The medicine unit is continuing to accept new admissions with enhanced screening measures. Staff are also extensively cleaning all high touch surfaces three times a day.

The outbreak will be declared over after four weeks with no new cases.

Meanwhile, AHS is reminding the community the hospital is still safe to visit and there’s no increased risk to patients.

Any patient who develops symptoms or has tested positive for the virus will be isolated in one of their designated COVID rooms.
