Residents Asked To Avoid Saprae Creek Trails After Pipeline Leak

Residents are being asked to avoid using the trails around Saprae Creek after a pipeline spill.

Inter Pipeline detected a leak in one of their systems on Saturday near the Fort McMurray International Airport.

There they found diluent on the ground which they’ve since fenced off from the public.

Residents living and working around the area may notice an odour, however, there is no risk to public safety or any waterways.

“Recreation and ATV users are being requested to avoid the area as there will be heavy equipment moving about and some trails may be impacted by temporary fencing,” read a statement from Inter Pipeline.

They continue to monitor the area for potential impacts to the environment and wildlife.

The company is currently investigating to determine the cause of the incident.
