RMWB Holding Telephone Townhall To Discuss Flood Mitigation

Residents in the flood-prone areas are getting another chance to share their views on how the RMWB should proceed with work.

The municipality is holding a telephone townhall on September 1 at 6:10 p.m. with those who live or work in downtown, Waterways, Draper, Ptarmigan Court, Longboat Landing, and Taiga Nova Eco-Industrial Park encouraged to participate.

The RMWB has been having buyout talks with homeowners in Draper, Ptarmigan Court, and those who live under 250 metres in Waterways. The plan for downtown, Longboat Landing, and Taiga Nova is to continue flood mitigation work.

“We’ve been fortunate to have exceptional participation in this community conversation to date,” said Matthew Hough, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer.

“We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve heard so far while providing residents with the opportunity to further reflect on how we address flood risk.”

Some residents will receive an automated call prior to the townhall as a reminder. These same residents will also receive a call to connect right before the meeting.

Those who don’t receive a call on September 1 or can’t connect online are asked to call 1-800-214-2540 or email [email protected].

Wood Buffalo council will potentially make a final decision on each of the six neighbourhoods on September 15.

Residents must register by 12 p.m. on September 14 if they would like to speak at the meeting. They can do so by emailing [email protected] or by calling 780-743-7001.
