Deferred Municipal Utility Payments Due, Non-Commercial Waste Fees Returning at Landfill

The time has come to pay your deferred utility bills.

The RMWB is reminding residents the deadline to repay their postponed bills is August 31.

Wood Buffalo council approved the utility deferral for all residents and commercial properties back in March to help lessen the economic impact of COVID-19.

The option was available for the months of March to July.

Municipal utility fees are charged for the for the distribution, collection and treatment of solid waste, water and sanitary sewage.

Payments can be made online.

Late penalties will begin on September 1 at a rate of 1.5 per cent per month to the outstanding balance.

Meanwhile, fees for disposing of non-commercial waste at the municipal landfill will return to normal next week.

They were originally waived in May after April’s flood, however, they’re being reinstated on September 1.

Residents are being encouraged to visit the landfill before the fees come back. The public drop off area is open daily from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
