One new case of COVID-19 is being discovered in Fort McMurray.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Wednesday 121 new cases across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 11,893 with 1,044 currently active.

Fort McMurray also saw two additional recoveries which lowered the active total to 13.

Seven cases remain active in the rural areas.

Across the RMWB, 115 individuals – 62 in Fort McMurray and 53 in the rural areas – have recovered from the virus.

They are among the 10,632 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 89 per cent of reported cases.

One more person has died from the virus in Alberta – putting the death toll at 217.

None of the deaths have been in the RMWB.

Meanwhile, Hinshaw is asking all teachers and staff to get tested before heading back to school at the end of the month. Students who have symptoms or pre-existing health conditions are the only ones being recommended to get tested.

This isn’t mandatory but is being recommended to help limit the spread of the virus.
